about
This is a song about the flat I used to live in.
lyrics
It was a house, just like any house London
Sorry and expensive, and overlooked a junction
When I tried to sleep, orange light came in the windows
Two street lamps sat right outside and coloured all my waking moments
My downstairs neighbor really didn’t like me
Always banging on my floor, complaining I was noisy
My upstairs neighbour had a thing for me
He wrote a dirty letter and he pushed it under my door
The walls were stained with an uncertain greyish substance
The shower was covered in damp and mould
I had to bring my keys to use the bathroom
I had to call the locksmith from the corner shop downstairs
The landlord was a bastard like all landlords are
But I paid him two days late on the dot each month,
Which seemed to shut him up.
For nearly two years of my life
I lived in just one room,
I only went outside to buy cigarettes and pizza,
Supposedly I was attending art school,
I don’t remember very much.
During my time,
My desk saw its fair share
Of embittered conversations I had with myself
Lying in bed,
Sweating out the night times,
I had nearly constant nightmares
Under orange light
I examined my life
Most of my days
I watched movies while I drank,
I found some public internet I could use
I finally threw in the towel one day
When the internet went down
I didn’t know why that was the final straw
I still don’t know
Never again
Will I live in 59
The solitude was nice
But I don’t miss the people
